Gen Z, AI, and the Workforce Crisis

Gen Z, AI, and the Workforce Crisis

This interview with H22 AI™ CEO and Founder Heather Jerrehian and Infosys Knowledge Institute's Global Head Jeff Kavanaugh is part of IKI’s CEO AI Conversations series.

This past Spring, I was honored to join the inaugural cohort of Semafor World Economy Principals, an exceptional group of leaders shaping conversations around the new world economy. While in Washington DC for the Semafor World Economy Summit, I had the chance to speak with Jeff Kavanaugh, Head of the Infosys Knowledge Institute, which is a founding partner of the summit.

In the context of larger conversations about global labor markets and rapid technological change, I spoke with Jeff about AI, the workforce crisis, and the way it’s completely shifting the entry-level landscape for Gen Z.

With an unemployment rate twice the national average and underemployment rate at almost 50%, Gen Z is already feeling the disruption to their career development and damage to their financial stability. While these have concrete effects on the economy and global talent pipeline, we should not overlook the effect it also has on their self-concept and mental health, and the resulting ripples in society.

In my conversation with Jeff, I laid out the ways that H22 has been built to respond to this crisis, and spoke of my commitment to helping Gen Z build the self-awareness and strategic clarity that will help them successfully navigate through and build successful and satisfying careers.
